I did try it on my pipe hawk handle and it fitted nice there too.
In this case the handle friction fit perfectly, no carving or sanding required like the pipe hawk, but that might have just been a fluke. The new style comes in a nice forge scale rustic coating that I love and am going to leave untouched (less the tiny “Taiwan” etching”) way better than the hateful gloss finish these hawks used to come with. I will mostly be comparing it to the Pipe Hawk by Cold Steel that has been my go to camping chopper for about 7 years now.įirst is that the fit and finish are way better. This isn’t long enough to give a definitive review, but I can pass on some initial thoughts. I have been using the Trailhawk for about a week now. The grub screw was a pain to remove and rounded a hex key. Just what I needed for my pack, not sharp but didn't take much work to sharpen to a good edge. Light and adaptable, took the head off sharpened it a bit, Can be used with or without a handle in so many ways, Can also replace a knife if so desired.
